Get Outta My Galaxy! is a new 3D action game with puzzle elements for iPhone and iPod Touch, available on the App Store as of 17th of March 2011, developed by a Finnish gaming upstart Ookoohko Oy.
Back Story
“All that Waka – the main character of “Get Outta My Galaxy!” – wanted was to spend quiet quality time between naps munching on rocks and staring into space. Those plans got messed up when wikus – a lively variety of alien annoyance – started spreading around Waka’s deserted home planet.
That’s where you come in. You need to take Waka along for a mission to restore peace and quiet in the galaxy.”
Game Highlights
- Travel through four solar systems filled with action-packed levels, with more on the way!
- Meet a bunch of cheerful lovable characters and slap them all into oblivion!
- Collect mad powerups to grow into towering heights, whirl around like a tornado and more!
- Explore your xenophobic tendencies within the safety of your own phone.
- Play a game with controls tailored for the device. None of that two-thumb nonsense!
Brief History of the Developer
The developer of the game, Ookoohko Oy, is an independent game studio founded by Sami Arola, Jarkko Salminen and Toni Laakso. We are located in Helsinki, Finland. After co-founding Sumea studio a decade ago (acquired by Digital Chocolate in 2004) we have worked on dozens of game titles on various platforms. In the spring 2009 we decided it’s time to start from scratch again and founded Ookoohko.
Some questions we’ve asked ourselves:
Q: No virtual joysticks, you say? So how do I control the game?
A: We’ve tried to make the controls of the game both true to the characteristics of the platform, easy to pick up and simply fun to use. Walking, running, turning and stopping are all achieved by tilting the device. Hitting enemies and other objects in the game is done directly by tapping the screen.
Q: Are there going to be any updates and when?
A: Yes. We plan to do regular content updates and are already outlining the first one.
Q: What do I need to play this game? Does it run on my old iPhone 3G?
A: We haven’t ruled any hardware revision out so any old iPhone or an iPod Touch will be able to run the game. While we’ve done our best to maintain playability across the entire device lineup, do note that there will be unavoidable performance differences between generations.
Q: Who made this game?
A: Three guys from Helsinki, Finland, with a little help from our friends.
Q: How did you make the sound effects?
A: Sound effects in the game are a combination of your standard sound library effects, onomatopoetic oomphs and aarghs created with the help of our character voice actor and slaps and crackles we recorded on a field trip with household items from a local super market.
